Newborn babies are frequently described as “pooping, sleeping and eating machines,” a description that is usually accurate. They sleep the majority of the time, interrupted primarily when they wake for their next meal. Despite newborns’ relative lack of interaction, their brains are rapidly developing, and some subtle yet interesting behaviours may be observed if one watches closely.
