14% of kids suffer with mental illness

    14%
    of kids suffer
    with mental Illness

Anxiety is a major contributor. How to deal with it? Less iPads, less TV, more communication and less RUSHING. Parenthood is so awesome… it’s also rather tough, stressful and taxing some days. It’d be lying to pretend it wasn’t. SO, there’s this ridiculously easy thing we can do to promote relaxation and create mini moments of unwind every day. Ever heard of “earthing”? It’s amazing what a bit of time ‘earthing’ does to relax and de-stress us. Lie in the grass in the park with your bub. Go for a walk and dig your toes into the sand at the beach, the grass, by the ocean or river’s edge… Time spent in nature is one of life’s great back-to-balance basics, yet we so often forget to do it and how good it feels to do it – think of holidays where we make time for such things and how positive and energised we feel… Well, that’s available to us every day if we make space for it – fabulous! Take the challenge and do it for 7 days with your little one. I can’t tell you how many parents report happier, less stressed and more relaxed bubs – not to mention themselves. How’s that back yard looking right now?

    CAN CAUSE DAMAGE

Did you know that many baby wipes on the market are either laden with preservatives that can do some serious damage to our skin or our hormones, and that they are the number 1 thing clogging up our water way drains? You can make a super easy home made wet ones with a dab of olive oil and water on a kitchen paper towel for wiping a baby’s bottom gently or you can use eco friendly brand like Eco Originals or Wot Not, who built their companies to be about health and environment alike.

Why allergies are now the norm?

    Why
    ALLERGIES
    are now the norm?

They used to be the minority. It doesn’t need to be this way, and the best things we can do to support reversal in the long term, is build their bodies up to be super strong as they grow. Probiotic foods, gentle toxin free personal care and low refined carbohydrate intake are three focuses you can work on over the next few months to get the wheels in motion. I like to sneak a teaspoon of fermented veggie juice into mashed potato to serve. Undetected and lapped up and billions of good bacteria headed down towards building a strong tummy and as my son calls it ‘getting rid of the baddy storm troopers’. I find Star Wars explanations really help get the point across in a basic but relatable way.

Flavoured Snacks and crisps contain MSG.

    hidden
    msg
    in kids snaks

MSG can be the cause of learning issues, lack of ability to focus and hyperactivity in anyone, let alone its effect on our little ones. Packet snacks and flavoured crisps and crackers are the no1 culprits here, so look out for “natural flavour, yeast extract, hydrolysed vegetable / wheat protein and numbers 621 – 625” – They’re all where MSG most commonly hides. If you need a baby step? Go for plain sea salt chips and rice crackers for parties and school get togethers. It’s as soon as you add all the jazzy flavours in the factory that we see the MSG creep in.

    Natures packages things perfectly.

    Natures
    packages things perfectly

When we start to extract, extrude and fiddle too much in general, things that might start out as good for us can end up becoming the opposite. Take fruit for example. Fruit and its fructose are metabolised efficiently by most people when the fiber of the whole fruit is still intact. Extract just the juice and leave out the fiber, and you have a whole lot of sugar hitting the system without the fiber to smooth the process. Add to that processing pasteurisation and long term plastic bottle storage for supermarkets, and you end up with plastic leaching and a complete lack of enzymes, meaning it’s basically sugar water with a few chemicals. Make fresh fruit smoothies or serve whole fruit but skip the fruit juice – water is the best option. We like to make jugs of water with a couple of herbal tea bags and fresh fruit pieces together instead. It becomes an activity and it’s super delicious, with a million different combinations possible, depending on the season!

    55 – 121

Throw out your plastic and use glass wherever possible.

Plastic is toxic

Area of concern: Floors

The soles of our feet is one of the most absorbent part of our body. Many commercial cleaners contain harsh petro-chemicals and irritating scents that leave behind a residue, even after rinsing.

Children and pets are particularly vulnerable due to their smaller size and proximity to the ground. For instance, bleach or chlorine found in some floor cleaners poses risk of cancer, liver and kidney damage.

Healthier Choice

Regularly mop your floors with non-toxic cleaners like Resparkle’s 100% natural Floor Cleaner Concentrate. The added lemon & mint essential oils leave your home smelling fresh and clean without chemicals.

Area of concern: Carpets

Carpets are able hold 8 times their weight in toxin-filled trapped dirt in the fibers and underneath it.

Most carpet cleaners are highly toxic leaving dangerous fumes and residues like perchloregthlene and ammonium hydroxide. The former is a known carcinogen which can damage the liver, kidneys, and nervous system while the latter is a corrosive which can irritate eyes, skin, and respiratory passages.

Healthier Choice

Vacuum and/or air it regularly. For carpet stains, sprinkle bi-carb and spray on Resparkle’s Organic Kitchen & Multi-Purpose Cleaner.

Area of concern: Healthy diet in a toxic world

For many, healthy living is focused on our diet supplemented by vitamins and superfoods. It is equally important to avoid absorbing toxins from everyday products into our bodies.

Harmful chemicals absorbed through our skin and lungs are even more dangerous than digesting it through our mouths. That is because the toxins bypass our body’s natural defense (our digestive system), heading straight into our bloodstream and to our organs where they wreck their havoc.

Healthier Choice

Gaining knowledge of the toxins and reading labels is the first crucial step towards a truly healthy life.

Take baby steps in detoxing your home such as removing household cleaners that have a Danger/Warning label and switching to safer natural alternatives.

Area of concern: Artificial Fragrance in Air-Fresheners/Scented Candles

Scenting your home using synthetic fragrance is probably one of the most dangerous yet unnecessary toxin you can have at home.

According to the NRDC (Natural Resource Defense Council), air-fresheners/scented candles contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates that aggravate asthma, cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects and reproductive problems. A plug-in air freshener contained more than 20 different volatile organic compounds, with more than one-third classified as toxic or hazardous under US federal laws.

Healthier Choice

Open the windows to keep air circulated to remove musky odors.

Use 100% natural essential oils to scent your home. For fresh clean scent, use a mix of lemon and mint essential oils, a little goes a long way.

Area of concern: Kitchen Surfaces

For most of us, kitchen is where we spend a large amount of time, making it crucial to keep the nasty chemicals out. Unfortunately, most all purpose cleaners leave residues of toxic chemicals on countertops and dishes even after you’ve washed it off, exposing us and our children to unwanted substances that have the potential to cause countless health issues.

Healthier Choice

Resparkle Organic Kitchen cleaner made from 100% natural ingredients is formulated to cut through the toughest of grease without the need for harmful chemicals. It also has anti-bacterial properties to help keep food-borne germs at bay.

Area of concern: Glass Windows

2-butoxyethanol (solvent) and ammonia (prevents streaks) are key ingredients in many window cleaners. The former can contribute to severe liver/kidney damage whilst the latter, a powerful respiratory irritant.

Healthier Choice

Resparkle’s Organic Bathroom and Glass cleaner is a 100% natural way to getting glass sparkling without streaks.

Food for positive mental health. For sensitive kids there are also certain things that should be limited or eliminated from the diet if you want to improve mental health. Sugar, artificial colour and flavours, dyes, preservatives, salicylates and allergens may all contribute to poor mental health. Consult a health care practitioner to discuss whether food intolerances or certain chemicals may be contributing to negative mood in your child. Supplementation of the above nutrients may also be necessary. Your health care practitioner can discuss appropriate dosing depending on the child’s age and size.
